The famous city of Darjeeling is located in the north of India. Around it are numerous deep green tea gardens with small signs and big names on them. The steep southern slopes of the Himalayas rise high into the sky and the steeply rising tea gardens, which are up to 2000 meters high, make the harvest difficult.
But the tea plants here enjoy clear, cool air, which leads to slow growth. The tea leaves have time to develop their unmistakable, delicate, floral Darjeeling aroma.
There are three important harvest seasons in the Darjeeling area:
- First Flush - Spring harvest: The most important harvest produces a tea with a floral, delicate aroma and a light infusion.
- Second Flush - Summer picking: Stronger aroma with a slightly astringent effect.
- Autumnal - Autumn picking: Aromatic, slightly spicy aroma with astringent effect.
